An analogue of cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) in which the cyanide ion is replaced by a hydroxide (OH-) ion.
1950 [see cobalamin]. 1961 Lancet 26 Aug. 483/1 For the treatment of pernicious anæmia hydroxocobalamin appears to be equal in activity to cyanocobalamin and is better retained. 1970 Times 24 Jan. 7/3 The condition can be successfully treated by injection of hydroxocobalamin, a special form of vitamin B12. |
