  mellitic acid (C12H6O12), the peculiar acid of mellite. (Also called mellic.)

1794 G. Adams Nat. & Exp. Philos. I. App. 542. 1802 T. Thomson Chem. III. 527 Klaproth found the mellite composed of alumina and a peculiar acid to which he gave the name of mellitic acid. 1844 Fownes Chem. 373 Mellitic acid..is soluble in water and alcohol.
