ELI5: Why do cats "chitter" or "chirp" when watching birds?
I have 5 female cats, they do this when hunting other stuff like flies too. They make these noises and hunt as a pack like the raptors from jurassic park. If one finds prey they chitter and the pack arrives in short order. The intonation and intensity of these noises vary by proximity to prey and the likeliness of successful attack.
