geikielite Min.
  (ˈgiːkɪlaɪt)
[f. the name of Sir Archibald Geikie (1835–1924), Scottish geologist + -lite.]
A titanate of magnesium, with some magnesium replaced by iron, known only as brownish or bluish black rolled pebbles from Ceylon.

1892 Nature 27 Oct. 620/2 The pebbles were handed over to Mr. Allan Dick for chemical investigation. Quantitative analysis proved the mineral to be essentially magnesium titanate... To this interesting new species Mr. Dick..gave the name Geikielite, in honour of Sir Archibald Geikie,..in whose laboratory the analysis had been made. 1906 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. XC. ii. 459 The ferric oxide shown in these analyses is in some cases primary (isomorphously replacing the geikielite molecule). 1944 C. Palache et al. Dana's Syst. Min. (ed. 7) I. 536 Ilmenite is FeTiO3 with as much as 54 atomic per cent of Mg..and grading into geikielite, (Mg,Fe)TiO3.
