1904 [see blind printing]. 1927 H. Hubbard Colour Block Print Making 172 The Japanese call this ‘gauffrage’, but it is known amongst western artists as ‘blind printing’. 1960 H. Hayward Antique Coll. 127/2 Gauffrage, blind-printing, producing an embossed effect without colour, and used in Japan from the late 18th cent. as a technique in making prints.
