In dilactic acid, a pale yellow, amorphous, easily fusible substance, formed, along with lactide, by heating lactic acid. Formula C6H10O5·2(C3H4O)·O2H2. Its salts are diˈlactates.
(So called because it contains two equivalents of lactyl, C3H4O, the radical of lactic acid.)
