1911 Q. Jrnl. Microsc. Sci. LVII. 14 Following immediately after the bouquet is the strepsitene or diplotene stage, in which the conjugants which were temporarily united in the pachytene loops separate again. 1925 E. B. Wilson Cell (ed. 3) vi. 544 Sooner..or later.., the threads are plainly longitudinally double (diplonema): and the two threads, especially in the later stages, are often spirally twisted about each other to form the strepsinema or strepsitene. These various conditions cannot as yet be very logically separated as distinct stages.
