[f. the chemical name N-isopropylnoradrenaline.]
A sympathomimetic amine, C6H3(OH)2CH(OH)CH2NHCH(CH3)2, that is a derivative of adrenaline and is used (usu. as the hydrochloride or sulphate, both whitish, bitter-tasting powders) either sublingually or in an aerosol for the relief of bronchial asthma and pulmonary emphysema.
This is the name in the British Pharmacopœia: cf. isoproterenol.

(ed. 10) 716 Isoprenaline given by inhalation is effective within a few minutes and, although the relief is relatively short-lived, this form of treatment has a useful place in the treatment of episodic asthma. 1971 Brit.
