  A form of aragonite, occurring as pisolites under strain, which decrepitates.

1898 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. LXXIV. 604 The violent decrepitation, on account of which the name ktypeite is given. 1902 Ibid. LXXXII. ii. 89 Conchite..is identical with aragonite, and the same is probably also true of ktypeite. 1951 C. Palache et. al. Dana's Syst. Min. (ed. 7) II. 191 Ktypeïte..is a name given to the substance of certain fibrous pisolites in the belief that it represented a new polymorph but which is very probably identical with aragonite. 1962 W. A. Deer et al. Rock-Forming Min. V. 312 ‘Ktypeite’, from hot spring pisolites, is almost certainly aragonite.
