A tumour usually of syphilitic origin, so called from the gummy nature of its contents.
1722 Quincy Lex. Physico-Med. (ed. 2), Gummata. Strumous tumours are sometimes thus called from the Resemblance of their Contents to gummous Substances. 1861 Bumstead Ven. Dis. (1879) 610 In the central portion of the gumma the vessels are very small. 1873 T. H. Green Introd. Pathol.
