  1. Characterized by upward movement or tendency; rising, advancing, progressive.

1646 Sir T. Browne Pseud. Ep. iv. xiii. 227 Though the Sunne be then ascensive. 1806 W. Taylor in Ann. Rev. IV. 67 The ascensive benevolence which aspires to domineer. 1863 Lyell Antiq. Man xxiv. 480 In Man, the brain presents an ascensive step in development.
