I. spaul, v. Obs. rare.
    [In sense 1, ad. OF. espauler (mod.F. épauler); in sense 2, ad. OF. espaul(l)ier, both f. espaule, épaule shoulder.]
    1. trans. In pass., of a horse: To be injured in the shoulder.

c 1410 Master of Game (MS. Digby 182) xii, If he may not be hole for all þis, do to hym as men done to an horse þat is spauled in þe sholder byfore.

    2. intr. Of the shoulders: To move up and down during walking.
