4. Sc. Law. Of a feudal superior: To resume possession of (lands). See recognition 1 and recognize v. 1.
1597 Skene De Verb. Sign. s.v. Recognition, The superiour hes entresse and regresse to the propertie of the landes, and may recognosce the samin. 1609 ― Reg.
