  2,4,6-Trihydroxyanisole, C7H8O4, a crystalline compound obtained by alkaline hydrolysis of irigenin.

1894 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. LXVI. i. 48 Iretol, C6H2(OH)3·OMe{ddd}is ultimately obtained in white needles melting at 186°. 1937 Jrnl. Amer. Chem. Soc. LIX. 933/1 Iretol is stable when pure and dry, but readily turns dark if exposed to moisture and oxygen. 1960 Tetrahedron Let. v. 8 Iridonitrile and iretol (Hoesch reaction) yielded the deoxybenzoin (I).
