[OE. þéotan, (pa. tense þéat, þuton) = ON. þjóta to whistle, etc., OHG. diozan to howl:—OTeut. *þeutan (þaut-, þut-). OE. had also another pres. stem þ{uacu}tan, whence þ{uacu}tende pr. pple. and þutenn in Ormin; so Da. tūde:—*þ{uacu}ta to howl. Cf. b{uacu}ᵹan, bow v.1]
