  [ad. mod.L. schœnanthus, a. late Gr. σχοίνανθος (also σχοινάνθη, σχοινάνθιον), f. σχοῖν-ος rush + ἄνθος flower.]
  A sweet-scented grass of Asia, Andropogon Schœnanthus, formerly used in medicine; camel's-hay.

1702 Petiver in Phil. Trans. XXIII. 1257 This is easily known from the other Schænanths in having hollow Oat⁓like husks. 1712 tr. Pomet's Hist. Drugs I. 110 Schœnanth. 1753 Chambers' Cycl. Suppl., Scænanth, or Schænanth.., the dried stalk of a plant brought to us from Arabia.
