The oriental shrub, Egyptian Privet (Lawsonia inermis, family Lythraceæ), or its leaves and young shoots, used by eastern nations to dye parts of the body reddish orange; henna.

¶ Alkanna is in mod. Botany the generic name of the Alkanet (formerly Anchusa tinctoria).
