a word-forming element (f. Gr. πλάσις moulding, conformation (πλάσσειν to form, mould) + -ia1) used in medical and biological terms in the sense ‘growth, development (of tissue)’, as dysplasia, heteroplasia. Occas. anglicized as -plasy.
