[a. OIr. Góidel (pl. Góidil), a Gael. See Gadhelic.]
A Gael in the widest sense; i.e. a person belonging to that branch of the Celtic people represented by the Irish and the Highlanders of Scotland, in contradistinction to the Brythonic or Cymric branch represented by the Welsh, Cornish, and Bretons.
