The name of two East Indian resinous trees, Calophyllum inophyllum (family Clusiaceæ), called also piney-tree, and Vateria indica (family Dipteraceæ); used attrib., as in piney dammar, resin, varnish, the resin obtained from Vateria indica, also called white dammar, Indian or Malabar copal, or gum animé; piney oil, piney tallow (Tamil punnaitailam), a fatty or waxy substance from the fruit of the same tree, used for making candles.
