  A hydrous chloride and sulphate of mercury and ammonia, occurring as transparent or translucent crystals of a yellow to orange colour.

1907 Chem. Abstr. I. 2454 Kleinite may be a mixture of a mercury-ammonium chloride..in great preponderance, with an oxychloride and sulphate or oxysulphate of mercury. 1932 Amer. Mineralogist XVII. 547 Specimens of kleinite, terlinguaite, montroydite, and mosesite from the Texas locality were then prepared for x-ray examination. 1954 Mineral. Abstr. XII. 433 Comparison of the data for kleinite..with those of mosesite..suggests that the former has a three-dimensional structure of [Hg2N]1+..with a formula [Hg2N](Cl,SO4)xH2O, where x is about 1/4.
