  a terminal element representing Gr. λίθος stone, in adaptations of actual or assumed Gr. compounds. The words with this ending are chiefly terms of Biology and Pathology, as coccolith, cyatholith, discolith, helmintholith, hippolith; other examples are acrolith, aerolith, laccolith, monolith. In terms of mineralogy -lite is commonly used instead of -lith.
