A nocturnal, greyish-brown bird of the genus so called, belonging to the family Podargidæ and found in Australia, New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands; esp. the Australian tawny frogmouth, Podargus strigoides. Cf. frog-mouth, frog's mouth 2.
