1857 Miller Elem. Chem. III. 282 *Thebaia, or Paramorphia (C38H21NO6). This alkali crystallizes from its solution in alcohol or in ether, in square plates of silvery lustre, which have a styptic, acrid taste. 1869 N. Syd. Soc. Bienn. Retrospect 443 Thebaia is the first of the opium alkaloids in toxic activity.
