Borneo

The name of a large island in the Indian Archipelago. attrib. in Borneo camphor, the camphor extracted from the Dryobalanops camphora, also the tree itself; Borneo caoutchouc, a kind of india-rubber obtained from Borneo. Hence borneene (ˈbɔːniːiːn), borneol (ˈbɔːniːɒl), organic compounds chiefly obtained from the Borneo camphor tree; bornesite (ˈbɔːnɪsaɪt) ‘a sweet volatile substance occurring in the caoutchouc of Borneo’ (Watts Dict. Chem. I. 626.)
