  The inhabitants of the opposite side of the earth.

1601 Holland Pliny (1634) I. 129 Many haue taken it [Ceylon] to be the place of the Antipodes, calling it the Antichthones world. 1684 T. Burnet Th. Earth I. 255 Those two hemispheres were then as two distinct worlds..this opposite earth being call'd by them antichthon, and its inhabitants antichthones. 1751 Chambers Cycl., Antichthones..much the same with what we more usually call Antipodes.
