Gastarbeiter

  [Ger., ‘guest-worker’, f. Gast guest + Arbeiter worker.]
  A person with temporary permission to work in another country, an immigrant worker. Applied esp. to those encouraged into Germany after 1945 to assist in the post-war economic revival.
