Gr. -γυνος adj. termination, f. γυν-ή woman, female) + -ous; used as = ‘having{ddd}female organs or pistils’, as in monogynous having one pistil, tetragynous having four pistils, etc., androgynous having stamens and pistils on the same flower or same plant.
