  [a. F. métacétone (Fremy): see meta- 2 and acetone.]
  A colourless oil obtained by the distillation of sugar or starch with quicklime.

1838 T. Thomson Chem. Org. Bodies 364 M. Fremy discovered that when 1 part of sugar is intimately mixed with 8 parts of unslacked lime, and distilled, the product consists of two liquids, one of which is acetone, and to the other he has given the name of metacetone. 1844 Fownes Chem. 409.
