[The twofold spelling with ai, oi would seem to point to a Fr. etymon, OF. *freis, *freise, repr. popular Lat. *frĭxum, -a, var. of frīxum, -a, pa. pple. neut. and fem. of frīgĕre to fry; but the word has not been found.]
A kind of pancake or omelette, often containing slices of bacon.
