  [ad. G. kolbeckit (F. Edelmann 1926, in Jahrb. f. d. Berg- u. Hüttenwesen in Sachsen C. a74), f. the name of Friedrich Kolbeck (1860–1943), German mineralogist: see -ite1.]
  A blue hydrated silicate-phosphate of beryllium, calcium, and scandium (and possibly aluminium).

1928 Mineral. Mag. XXI. 568 Kolbeckite. Beryllium phosphate or silicophosphate as cyan-blue monoclinic crystals from Saxony. 1959 Bull. Geol. Soc. Amer. LXX. 1649 Sterrettite and kolbeckite are the first known scandium-bearing phosphates. 1966 Z. Lerman tr. Vlasov's Geochem. & Mineral. Rare Elements II. vi. 219 Kolbeckite is distinguished by its marked pleochroism. It is a very rare mineral.
