  (ˈtjʊərənəʊz)
[ad. Russ. turanoza (A. Alekhina 1889, in Zhurnal Russkago fiziko-khim. Obshchestva XXI. 418), after Pers. Turān Turkistan, place of origin of the manna used to prepare this: see -ose2.]
The reducing disaccharide sugar C12H22O11, formed by partial hydrolysis of melezitose; 3-α-d-glucopyranosyl-d-fructose.

1890 Jrnl. Chem. Soc. LVIII. 733 Melezitose, on inversion with dilute mineral acids, yields at first turanose and dextrose; the former is a new saccharose of the formula C12H22O11. 1927 M. Bodansky Introd. Physiol. Chem. ii. 43 Turanose (fructose + glucose) is obtained by hydrolyzing the trisaccharide melicitose. 1975 Nature 10 July 128/1 Maltose was slightly more effective, and sucrose, turanose, kojibiose, trehalose and melezitose all inhibited binding at significantly lower concentrations than glucose.
