What are some characteristics of a galvanic cell?

A galvanic cell consists of two half-cells, each composed of an electrode and an electrolyte. A galvanic cell produces an electrical potential, or voltage, from the chemical energy released when a redox reaction occurs. The voltage of the cell remains constant until the reactants in one of the half-cells have been consumed. Then, the reaction stops and the cell's voltage begins to decrease.
