A fair weather friend is someone who only shows up when times are good. For example, an individual could have a friend who is always there to celebrate their successes and praise them, but is nowhere to be found during difficult times. This person is a fair weather friend because they are only around during the "good weather" of life, and disappears at the first sign of a storm.
