Explain the concept of mutualism in ecology.

Mutualism is a type of symbiotic relationship where two species financially benefit from one another. In mutualism, both species are dependent on one another for survival— if either species disappears, the other is likely to be adversely affected. The species involved in a mutualistic relationship share resources and often provide protection or special services to the other species. For example, a bee may pollinate a flower, while the flower provides nectar to the bee.
