Please explain how to make pink gin & what is angostura bitters?

hi it's mai welcome back to resident drinker today i'm going to show you how to make some pink gin and i'm going to tell you a little bit about angostura bitters pink gin looks quite uh tantalizing nearly spilt it um it's a really simple drink i'm not gonna lie you literally require this and some gin and ice and that is it so it's really easy to make it's um very strong i have to say traditionally made with plymouth gin or naval strength gin if you want to know more about that you can watch my video five things you need to know about gin where i talk all about uh naval strength so it's a really strong drink but it's a beautiful kind of marriage between the botanicals in the gin and then the aromatic botanicals that you find in bitters and the bitters sort of lend i wouldn't say bitters are particularly sweet but they obviously add a sweetness to the drink and i think the two go very well together so let's have a taste like i said it's really strong you could obviously temp sort of change the ratios of gin um to kind of ice or water or maybe even add a bit of soda water if it if you find it too strong but personally i love it i find it quite a refreshing drink um like i said the botanicals between the angostura and the gin really go well together and i think it they complement each other which makes even though it's strong it's still a very delicious drink with lots of flavor so you'll be able to see how to make that shortly but i also wanted to share just a little snippet of information about angus dura bitters so let me pop my drink down and i'm going to come back and tell you a little bit more about this this little bottle um is very distinctive i think we've probably all seen it it's um i would say it's an essential ingredient in like many many of the most famous drinks in old fashioned manhattan's things like that require angusture bitters and that's a testament to how long it's actually been around so it was actually invented in 1824 in um actually in venezuela it's made today in trinidad and tobago has been since 1875 but it was actually invented by a german um and his name was johan siegert and he was a physician and was trying to find again it's funny how a lot of these things start from a medicinal point of view but trying to sort of use the um herbs and different things that he could find in venezuela that the amerindians had taught him so he gathered all of these herbs and spices and kind of through various experiments came up with pretty much what we have today as angostura bitters and it was meant to be kind of a tonic to to help cure like malaria and stomach bugs and things like that no i'm not sure it really sort of works but certainly people still take it today for like stomach upsets and things like that so this actually contains gentian which is a sort of a flower but it's a herb it's flowers and then it has herbs and different botanicals and the secret of what is in here is closely guarded apparently the family the seagup family they don't fly together they don't eat together just in case anything should happen because they're the only people i think there's only four people that know the full recipe in the whole world so quite amazing and uh the bottle and label are quite distinctive and this actually occurred because they were entering competition this is way back in when they first started in the 1800s and one brother went off and designed the bottle and the other brother went off and designed the label and they didn't really communicate with each other so you ended up with a label which created this collar and the bottle which was much sort of smaller they didn't win the competition but one of the judges told them that the bottle and the label were so distinctive that they should definitely keep it because it would be a great selling point people would always recognize their product so really angostura bitters is something that is probably very well thought of in the bartending trade it's a great thing to have at home in order to make lots of cocktails because having this you can't really make some of these drinks without angostura bitters it just wouldn't taste the same an old-fashioned without angstrom bitters is not an old-fashioned it lets you just be bourbon and ice um so i would recommend maybe giving it a go trying a bottle out and trying out some cocktails and i've got a link below to my old fashioned recipe which you can have a look at and hopefully you'll enjoy seeing how to make some pink chin so i'll see you soon cheers she it me you
