everybody it's gina and i'm back with another quick video this time i'm going to be talking about moringa i've talked about this before but i wanted to talk a little bit about how you can cultivate another moringa tree using a cutting from the tree and i'm going to show you my main tree as well as one that i have in a pot that wasn't doing so great so i'm going to cut that back i'm also going to show you one that we started from seed as well as a pod that i cut from the from the main tree last year that we're saving the seeds from all right so just we're going to stop here and then i'm gonna go over to the main tree and show you what we're gonna do there what you're looking at right now is the first moringa tree that i planted and i started this from seed about three years ago it got damaged during hurricane matthew back in october 2016 so i ended up trimming off part of the top but i left one long branch here and what i'm gonna do is cut that off but i'm gonna show you how to start another moringa tree simply from using the cutting from that branch all right so what you're looking at here is the long branch that i just cut and i went ahead and just cut it into smaller pieces that are about nine to 12 inches in length and what's going to happen is once i put this into some soil you'll see new branches that are going to come out from these areas in here so in a couple weeks i will show you a new video with hopefully some new some new growth in there but for now i'm going to go ahead and show you how to transplant this moringa or actually i'm going to kind of fix this up a little bit because this needs a little bit of work and i'll show you that in a second all right so what you're looking at here are the four pieces of the cuttings that i did from the moringa tree and all i did was just simply place it into some compost that i'd made and hopefully within another two weeks we should be seeing some new growth coming out from around here as well as from the bottom what i did was i just pushed it all the way to the bottom of the pot and water it in really well and then we'll we'll see now that cuttings are at least a half an inch thick you do not want to use really skinny pieces of cuttings because they will not be strong enough to create a new tree but because this is coming from a mature tree and these pieces are pretty thick we should have some fairly good luck what you're going to see we'll be able to see some new leaves coming up from these areas as well as you can see down here so wish me luck and in a couple weeks i'm going to do another an update video simply on these cuttings um for the next part of this video we're going to um work on one that's been in the pot that needs a little bit of work so just give me a couple minutes to set up for that one okay all right what you're looking at here is another moringa tree that i started from seed but i kept it a pot because i was doing this one for my sister and we just never had a chance to take it across to her home so but over time it kind of um took a beating from the wind and started to lean so what i'm going to do today is to try to get it straightened a little bit more like this and then i'm going to trim off some of these branches so that we can have some new growth that starts to come out from the sides you can see where we got new growth here when it was leaning on the side so it tended to grow up this way but we want more growth coming from the bottom as well as here so i'm going to do a little bit of trimming and then i'm going to add some more soil to get that straightened up in the pot so give me a second and i'm going to show you exactly how we do that okay this is going to look a little brutal you can see from here that it does have flowers on there there's some new growth coming out here some new growth here but for purposes of trying to recover this particular tree i'm going to trim it aggressively so i'm not actually killing it but i am going to be removing about up to here and a few pieces on this side okay just for purposes of trying to get it to regenerate into some new some new growth so what we're going to do now is just turn this on the side you can see it's a little straighter and i could even use this piece that i just cut off here and i could start another tree using that one so we'll give that a shot as well but you can see how the tree was leaning and all i did i've just simply taken it out of the pot and i've turned it on the side what i'm gonna do is add a little bit more soil to the bottom of this and then we will add the tree back in and this is going to be some nice nourishing organic swirl place this back in here you can see where it's standing up a little bit straighter and break off some of this and then i'll add some more soil to fill up the pot around the edges and over time all of this is going to break down and help to feed the plant as well until i'm ready for it to go into the ground if it's not necessary to put it in the ground you can grow these in a pot you just want to make sure that it's not getting root bound if you need to put it into a bigger pot then go ahead and do so or just simply put it into the ground if you have space and just remember to keep it trimmed so that you can always generate new growth because some people grow these just for the leaves i grow it for the pods as well as the as well as the leaves i use the pots to make tea as well as to cook a nice spinach dish with like um and there's gonna be a link to another video that we've done before showing that so you want to make sure you water this in really well it did go into a little bit of shock by me having to pull it out of the pot now that i'm adding some more soil in a few weeks we should be seeing a lot of new growth in this little baby so check back for an update and thank you for watching
