and welcome back to another cools painting tips this week I'm going to focus on something really simple same thing I did last week we're going to learn how to clean up a styrene model this is a age of sigmar I can't remember what it is it's one of their Champions sound from Games Workshop so I'm going to show you how to get rid of the mold lines on this although there is very few they're almost non-existent they're just very little and I'll show you how to get this out of the spring so let's get started alright for cleaning up and assembling one of these models you really only need two tools and that is just a regular hobby knife and you will also need to get yourself a pair of these they're called flush cutters or a sprue cutter and that is so we can cut the pieces off of the sprue with as little damage as possible to the model there won't be any really but if you're not practiced well enough you might do a little bit of damage so all you have to do remove the mold lines first when the figure is still in the sprue so like I did with the PVC model you just take a really good look at it and figure out where your mold lines are so there's very few of them and they're really really non-existent there's you know harder than anything here so what you do is just take your knife and scrape it along the mold line it's much easier than PVC because the styrene doesn't pill so all you have to do is just scrape your enter your knife along the mold line and it will go away there is quite a bit on a hammer well more than anything else else around here let's see if I can we can take a closer look at this okay so the hammer has a little bit of a mold one here so I'll just show you how to remove that and what I'm gonna do exactly let's get focus here if we can so very easy just scrape the stuff off and if you look completely on the styrene is much easier to work with in the PVC all you have to do is just give everything a quick scrape over the mould line and they disappear the flat areas are especially easy like this one so unlike the PVC where you're having to shave it off like this the styrene plastic for any of the games workshop or anything that's on a screw like this you simply scrape it along the side and that will get rid of all of your lines so as you can see the age of sigmar figures are sitting really well cast there is a lot of mould lines on them at all so now we're going to take our flush cutters and I'll show you on the base first because it's the easiest now most people will say a cup great flush against the the plastic I say no cut a little piece of this stuff off first with your screw cutters don't cut all the way flush to the plastic simply because with the figures you'll find that if you cut a piece of this sprue off you'll incur less damage as you go so leave these little nubs like this on and you just take your hobby knife afterwards and shave them off so I just shaved those off with the hobby knife and the surface comes out much more even so that's always the best way to go about it for cutting it off the screw so remove the mold lines first before you remove the figure off the sprue and that's simply because it will allow you to pull the figure and it'll brace the figure make everything easier to clean as you go so let's cut the rest of this thing out alright so same thing we did with the base just need a little bit of plastic and the hammer because it is a flat surface you can cut that one flush but I try and leave at least a little bit of material and then as you can see the screw work annexed to the shoulder here there is a bit of detail so it is better that you leave a little bit of nub of plastic on all of this stuff and then just cut it off afterwards so I'll just jump to the edge shop when you're coming this stuff off don't cut this way towards yourself always cut away from yourself if you see me do it the videos do as I say don't do as I do I'm usually really bad for safety anyway but with these nubs what you want to do is shave it off like we did with the PVC just ever so gently and then get a majority of the material off and then use the side of the blade and just scrape the surface even so now we'll jump to you thought I would show you the head just because it's a really delicate piece let's zoom in on the head and the same thing here so there is a best order to go about this so cut the two sides here first leave quite a bit of material on the head because as you can see this little sunburst thing is pretty delicate so let's use the very tip of the Clipper you just ever so gently squeeze the plastic until it's sort of pinches off so just make sure you just squeeze it ever so gently so the plastic pinches off and then the bottom one you should do last and because it's going into the socket where the neck fits here we can cut that one right flush and then that should fall off pretty easy and then it's just a simple matter to shave these nubs off with your knife just the very very tip and don't go this way because in case you slip you're gonna be cutting off one of these a little of spikes that's on his helmet so we want to cut this way be very very careful because it's such a small piece your fingers might be in place just very gently saw push this plastic is pretty soft so it should go through easily as long as you have a nice truck so I'm your perfectionist here because I'm going to paint this guy - really nice nice this one - don't go this way because in case we slip with confidence right so if you want to you can just shave the top of it off like I'm doing here and just slowly shave down little thin layers until you get to the bottom so tada and he's nice and perfect to me have him cut off think that the spikes illuminated for details again a piece like this there's a certain order you should go in and these one this should be the last ones that you cut so we can cut these thicker ones on the shoulder pads here it's a pretty good piece attached like I said before we're trying to leave a little bit of the manova here now because the sword is a double piece you see here it has like two layers to it so it's obviously stronger here than it is here so you cut the stronger piece first because if it bends it's much easier to hold together because it has more structure to it and then you cut the ribbon piece last because it's the most delicate so that the general rule here go from the strongest looking points to the flimsiest points so same thing that we did on the head we did the sides of the head first and then we cut it off the body same thing here do the shoulders first then cut the stuff off the flimsy stuff on the bottom and then the shield it doesn't really matter we can any order because again it's attached all on flat surfaces it's easy enough to fix all of that with our hobby knife so we can cut this one almost flush to the surface there we have all the pieces out of the sprue and then just give everything here quick cleanup by just doing the same thing I was doing on the head just shaving off just like little pieces of the plastic not here where it's got the sperm injection point it's a little and even just turn the knife up and we'll just scrape the surface so once you get it out of the screw to take a check on it make sure you've gotten all the mould lines I found another mould line that was on the underside of this guy's bottom here so I removed that after the sprue and there was a little bit on his hammer as well the hammer by far was probably the worst piece of them but what I've seen from these models so far is there a really nice think that hardly any more lines and the hardest part about cleaning them up is just getting rid of these attachments to the sprue and the injection points that's really all there is to it these major sigma models and i'm assuming the models in we're having a quest silver tower of the same misterben india this video was for you since you asked so there you go that's how you clean out the styrene figure that's from Games Workshop or I know the Privateer Press is also using them as well so I know they're numero warjack models are all styrene too so there you go very easy stuff another basic video right there you have it folks that's how to remove the mould lines on a styrene model and how to the best way to remove it from the sprue hopefully that helps out any of the new players that have picked up they're a Warhammer Quest stage of a silver tower boxes or any of the New Age of sigmar players or in case anybody's wondering how to get things these things out of the screw and cleaned up so that they can at least put them together if not paint them next week I will have a video up for base coating and how to properly thin your paint so stay tuned next remember you're always welcome to like and share and subscribe to my channel stay tuned every week for new videos on how to paint I'm going to cover some more basic stuff but I will also be moving into some more advanced techniques like object source lighting and other things like that so stay tuned I will have plenty more videos with lots of different stuff for both beginners and advanced painters alike thanks for watching
