hey girl it's Jamie and next week is Valentine's Day I'm sure you have all of your cards decorations and invitations ready but do you have something to put those in I didn't think so let me give you a hand by showing you how to make your own blue design tie-dye tote let's do it girl for this craft you're going to need a plain canvas tote bag I bought this at a craft store for $4 make sure to grab a board or an object that you can place inside of your bag for designing I went with a pair of school binders you're also going to need washable glue gel scissors rubber bands rubber gloves and complementary fabric dyes I bought this kit for 10 dollars at the same craft store where I bought my tote bag and it already came with the rubber bands rubber glove and the dies but of course you can just buy your fabric colors individually as well as some squirter spray bottles to put them in finally make sure to keep things clean you can set up a workstation with a tarp or cover a table with old rags or you can just be like me and then buy a great that you can put over your sink I went with a standard cooling rack I also recommend changing into old clothes because this craft can get a little messy alright it's time to die that sounded morbid I meant like dye your bag not like you know I mean this is a Valentine's Day episode not a Halloween episode am i right the first step is to prep your tote bag for your dies if it's a brand new bag then feel free to wash it in warm water ahead of time in order to soften the fabric then slip your board or object inside your tote to stretch the fabric tight again not only is this a safety net to keep the glue gel from seeping in towards the other side of the fabric but it also allows you to draw your designs onto your bag more accurately that said you might get a little bit of residue on your board so just be prepared to wash it after gluing speaking of which the next step is to draw in your glue gel design since it's Valentine's Day I'm going to create a big conversation heart in the center with the words be mine then I'll draw some cute small heart decals and random spots let the glue gel dry completely I'm not kidding when I say that the glue needs to be a hundred percent definitely completely unquestionably dry if it's wet and it's not going to block out the die from absorbing and then you might not be able to see some of your actual designs plus if it's wet and the glue is going to stick on random parts of the bag as you're folding it and then you're gonna get extra markings on your bag that you never plan for trust me on this one make sure to always dry before you die words to live by once your glue gel is completely dry remove your board then carefully fold your tote accordion style into one long strip if you wanted vertical stripes you would fold your tote from top to bottom I folded my tote left to right in order to make horizontal stripes then using rubber bands find your bag in two sections each section will receive a new color for my bag I made five sections total all right it's tied iTime mix your fabric dye according to the instructions on the box and then place your dye into your bottles my kits did all the hard work for me so all I have to do is add water to the bottle right before adding your dyes make sure to lightly dampen your tote in cool water this will help the color of the dye to absorb quickly and efficiently I'll place a nice red color in the center section then I'll move on to a pretty pink for the two sections bordering my red color I'll finish the outside parts of the bag with the dark purple as for the handles I'll die with all three colors feel free to flip or rotate the bag in order to distribute your dye evenly when finished let your bags sit on your workstation overnight or at least for 8 hours this will ensure that your dye color really sets in an optional step is to tie up your tote in a plastic bag or plastic wrap in order to keep your fabric damp and let the dye set in the final step is to wash your tote I recommend first rinsing your bag in cool water to remove excess dye cut off your rubber bands with your scissors and then place your tote in warm soapy water remove the glue by rubbing it gently with your fingers under the water finally toss your bag into the washing machine on a light cycle if you've made more than one bag you can wash them all at the same time however don't wash it with a normal laundry load because then it could mix with your newly died colors let everything hang to dry and voila you now have your own Valentine's Day tote there are so many different ways of doing this crafts whether you're gluing on different designs are using different colors of dye and you can just skip the rubberband binding and go ahead and just use one color for an ombre effect like I showed you in my dip dye t-shirt video from a while back and you can use any extra glue and dye to apply this technique to anything cotton or canvas whether it's old t-shirts sneakers or more how did you make your Valentine's Day tote point me at Jamie potato in graeme at hey Jamie or just tell me all about it in the comments below we did a girl I'm Jamie and you're on girl calm answer your tie-dye question do you have to use glue gel well with time and experience I found that the dye tends to bleed underneath the letters if you're just using white glue so it doesn't give you the cleanest of lines what if your glue doesn't seem to be drying well if you've waited hours and your glue still isn't drying then you can go ahead and use a blow dryer on any trouble spots or you can just grab a paper towel a second and dab any trouble areas before you go on to tie-dye I'm not kidding when I say that your drew your drew do you know it drew I do okay bad dr.
