Please explain how to make concord grape juice

hello everyone I'm your produce guy and today we're going to talk about juicing grapes these are the concord grapes that i picked in my son's backyard and we're going to turn these into some delicious fresh juice now there's a couple of ways that you can juice concord grapes one is with a juice steamer now that is a specialized piece of equipment that most people probably don't have in their kitchen and I don't have in my kitchen so I'm just telling you about I'm not going to show that to you today also another way to make grape juice is if you bottle it you get a mason jar you fill it with the grapes you just pack them in there and some sugar some water to cover them and then you put them in a steam bath and that cooks the grapes the juice is extracted and all the sediment drops to the bottom of the mason jar and then when you open it up you toss away that sediment from the bottom and have they have the grape juice left but we're going to make some fresh grape juice not adding any sugar or anything so we need some tools we've got some specialized tools for our operation here today first of all we need our grapes of course need a stockpot because we're going to cook these grapes down just a little bit then we've got a strainer a kitchen strainer there some cheesecloth which is if you're not familiar with that it's a very thin cloth with a lot of holes in it there that will be used for straining the juice as well and then to make the juice I debated whether to take my shoes off and pour the grapes in a wash tub and step on them the old-fashioned way button but no I have decided against that and I'm going to use a potato masher so let's get to work and make some juice all right the first thing you want to do is get yourself a colander something that you can use to strain the grapes with and I like to use a bowl set the colander down in that way we capture the water as we spray off the grapes it fills with water and we give them a nice immersion bath so then you place the grapes inside the colander get a bunch of them in there and then we'll fire up the water here and start rinsing these babies off okay now that we've got them all rinsed and washed we begin the sorting process I want to pick off the good fold plump grapes put them into the One Bowl there other Bowl gets the stems in the shriveled or broken grapes once that is complete and you've got them sorted get the grapes into a flat bottomed Bowl and you hit them with a potato masher just smash them to break up the the membranes and get those grape skins slipping off now that they're mashed put them in the pot onto the stove the you have to boil bring the grapes to a boiling point here we'll cook them down they'll once we get them to boiling they'll simmer for about ten minutes probably want to add a little bit of water in fact I've seen one recipe where they have you cover the grapes with water let you simmer them with a little bit of water for ten minutes to get the juice extracted from the grapes now once the simmering is complete you get a strainer and in this case I'm going to line it with some cheesecloth for a little extra straining and once that's lined in there there we go we'll go ahead and pour in the grapes now look at that you can see that purple grape juice is extract they're beautiful looking coming out now it is hot so be careful handle it carefully and once all the pulp and juices down into the strainer we'll stir that up a little bit kind of encourage the juice to flow out of there in fact I need to lift up the strainer a little bit let that juice drip out and there we are let's take a look and you've got some delicious fresh grape juice right off the vine well we're going to go ahead and continue processing the rest of these grapes if you remember we picked about 40 pounds of grapes from the vine in my son's backyard that's a pretty productive little vine he's got going there now the grapes will about a pound of grapes will distill down to about a cup of juice so the 1 pound to 1 cup ratio and we'll keep working those up and finish these up have about 40 cups of juice when we're done delicious fresh grape juice thanks so much to everybody who's been watching and with us today and thank you for subscribing if you haven't subscribed yet please do so down below hit that button you can follow us on Facebook and we will look forward to seeing you next time in our next video thanks so much and remember as always fresh is best you
