hi I'm Darcy from the purposeful pantry where we have children in the background that cause problems hi I'm Darcy from the purposeful pantry comm where we talk about food storage dehydrating putting food by with a purpose today we're gonna be talking about dehydrating raspberries they are one of my favorite fruits that well I can't eat them whole anymore I love having the flavor of raspberry in my food so much smoothies and some of my breakfast yogurts and breakfast oatmeal and today I'm gonna learn I mean today I'm gonna learn you today I'm going to show you how you can dehydrate raspberries and save them for year-round use what I use my fruit powders for are putting into yogurts putting into to oatmeal like I said actually this morning we did a blackberry waffle for the family and even she's them in so many ways and this is a great way to be able to put fruit by that you might otherwise throw out you just buy so much and you want to be able to have it you around so stick around let's get started okay so what I have are raspberries that I purchased at the grocery store last a few days ago for 88 cents a package which is a good price I'm at we years I can't get it that inexpensive anywhere so I have a colander here in the bottom of the sink and I'm going to just drop it right in you want to be kind of gentle with them because they can break pretty easily all right now I take you over to the sink so you can see what we need to have going on in here so we have raspberries and the first thing that we're going to want to do is go through them to make sure we don't have any of it or bad and you can see that one right here I'm going to go ahead and pull aside and not use it but these are ready to go I'm going to use a gentle cold wash on these first now before we get too far into this you may decide that you would like to soak these in a heavy vinegar rinse and go ahead and do that I tend to rinse them off really really well and then dry them off on the counter on a towel I will soak these a little bit in some water if I feel like I need to if I'm seeing a bunch of debris come off but what I'm looking for is to rinse off whatever might still be on there from the store using a mild vinegar rinse is not going to do any good and I'll link down below an article about why you need to use something really strong I happen to be out of vinegar so what I'm going to do is just go ahead and soak these in another Bowl I just want to do really quick rinse first so hold on we'll get to next now welcome to my dehydrating closet those of you who follow the channel know that I keep my dehydrator on top of my dryer it's fine as long as I'm not running laundry so we have to juggle doing that the same time I'm dehydrating but this is my raspberry group at the end of their cycle so here now raspberries that are they have a slightly great look to them they have been fully dehydrated because you can hear the crunch and that's what they look like when they're done what we'll do is allow these to sit ready and cool off here then I'm gonna put them in a jar for two weeks to allow them to condition which is the act of taking these into a group and letting the the humidity even itself out between all the different pieces and if you start seeing any condensation happening in the jar within the first two days you know you need to put these back in and get them hydrate I'm a dehydrator more so now I start taking all of my raspberries and emptying them into the bowl that I'll use to you oops what happens is that raspberries will occasionally drop off some juice as they're going you can see that some of them are stuck because of the juice that's here on sorry I do this first you can see how there's a little bit of juice that has come out that kind of makes them sticky but they're done it's just this is still a bit tacky the sugars something else I was going to show you that I do is I will actually put in a humidity indicator strip into my fruit or into my vegetables to make sure that I've got good humidity levels in the in the jars so that I don't have any issue of maybe I didn't get them as dehydrated as I thought so I usually keep this going for the first day or so to make sure that I'm good and check the jars up to make sure but basically what's going to start happening is that I'm all of the fruit here will start transferring its humidity level between each of the feather so it kind of evens itself out and you check to make sure that you're not above 10% so we're doing good right now vegetables you can have adds no try the get vegetables at 20 at 10 percent fruit should be no more than 20 percent humidity just because the nature of fruit is that you have a natural higher humidity level then you do with vegetables after they're dehydrated and that's that from juice here all right here's our last tree you might find that your tray stick to your your tray liner stick to your tray because the juice that comes out of the raspberry as it dries it can become sticky one man down so you just have to be careful when you're pulling out the tray to make sure that you're not wheezing which I've done in the past is I've lost an entire tray of berries when trying to pull the liner off the tray without having it down on this surface ended up with all of it on the floor wasted an entire tray it was just a thing all right so now we have an entire corner full of dried raspberries let's go get them powdered okay to powder I'm going to be using my ninja blender I'm going to be using a pan that I will collect the dehydrator power into you I'll be using this strainer to take out the seeds normally if I'm doing something that's really tough that once you want you run it through the blender you still have bits left over that need to be ground down further I will use my coffee grinder to do the small jobs however because the way that these will going down I don't need this at all so we'll just get rid of that because what will be left once I ground these down son is some seeds and I don't want to grind the seeds down anymore they're really tough even go through the coffee grinder they don't do well I don't need to have even more seed in here because the season what I try to keep out of my intestines so I'm just going to stick with what happens with the fibers in the fruit and let the seeds go so let's get started here and as always make sure you have really clean hands before you start in the background you see I've got pineapples ready to go for the next round into the hydrator if you'd like to see me do a tutorial on them please let me know in the comments below I always active if you were interested in seeing these or not and so that I'm not filming something that you're not really all that interested in but I'd love to do it please your life okay I am going to in post edit I'm going to go ahead and make sure that this isn't too loud but you might want to turn down your volume right now just in case one thing that's a little sad for me to see all the time is by the time I've gotten all of this done I am gone from what 12 to 18 pints have a me i bot fill this up with dried fruit and it ends up being just that much but it's so concentrated you will need about a tablespoon for anything that you work with so looks can be deceiving this is really a power punch full of dried fruit okay we're going to go ahead and pour this out to strain it with one of these make sure to is you're opening this to give it a minute to allow the another powder vapor whatever you want to call it to dissipate because you don't want to open with your face right over the jar and have in taking a big huge with a raspberry powder because it's not that Oh forgot a couple snack on that later alright so now that I have is a strainer full of raspberry powder that I'm gonna go ahead and just drain out like this you can see it you can see the powder cumin so you know what's coming through and what's on the inside and I hope you can see that in the camera you're gonna see some of the darker bits right here the larger matter which is the seeds that we're not going to keep and this is the powder that we are keeping I did a video on how to do blackberries this way if you're interested in that you can all link it down below so that you can see they work exactly the same way what you will have seen we do in the blackberry video is I'm not doing this time is that I'm not gonna run these seeds through the grinder I just by the time I got it all done I wasn't pulling enough powder to make it worth it and because I was getting a little shards of seeds I'm trying not to do that this time to make sure that this is just pretty much a pure powder form as best I can get it we use the power this morning and didn't find a problem with it at all and I can always go through it finer sift with a sturdy that's a little finer than this but I'm not gonna worry about that I'm just going to go ahead and get through here and be done with it because this is gonna be a lot of powder all right if you get hay fever in the fall this is our typical fall house all right so we have his leftist seeds I can even feel it because that's about all that's coming here and I didn't see some of the smaller ones that have made it through so I'm gonna run this through this another strain and a finer grade strainer I'm not going to show you because it's just basically what I just did so gonna have these last bits of the small seeds that I've got here and then I'll show you how I store it I just I just have to go ahead and show you what this last train is going to be it makes a little harder because the the mesh on this is really fine but it's gonna pull out any larger bit that we don't want to have in our powder hey what if you got through I'll show you by the time we get you're here and I'm gonna do this the first time because this does take a lot longer no wonder I had so many seeds last time but I also ran the last batch the coffee grinder a couple of times so that took care of it I would just want fewer seeds this time and lots more powder all right see that's all the state I still have left in that one a lot more than I thought was going through so we have a fine powder that will go outside the compost weird now let's get it stored away okay we're going to go ahead and transfer this powder into the candy jar that we're using to store it now if you can see this in the camera it is a really fine powder super super fine joy soft powder from the store this is what we got left down below give the conversion chart I need to look it up from when I did the last time to make sure I get this right about how many raspberries takes to make a certain amount of powder so I'll have that just down below or I'll edit it into this corner or maybe even this corner hey it's a store I use a perfectly clean lid and ring and store it just like this I don't use any kind of moisture absorbers or oten absorbers in this because that go through it often enough that I don't want to waste the o2 absorbers because they're not meant for things that you open close a lot the moisture absorbers the desk impacts that you can get for moisture control I don't use because it tends to make this cake up and I don't want that I just go me just as it is will have this used up within the next two months maybe three so there you go thanks again for watching I really appreciate when you do and like when you join me and we learned about how to do this together so that we can stock our pantries more purposefully for what our family needs thanks again for watching if you like this video give me a big thumbs up if you don't thumbs down but tell me why so that I know why you didn't like it if you would appreciate if I would appreciate if you would give me a follow so that you can see everything else that we do again thank you very much I really do appreciate it and I hope you have a great day you
