hello everyone I'm Joshua Clement and today I'm going to talked about how to properly trim your underlay for an area rug now this is a very simple job you can do with just a pair of scissors and it will keep your area rug from slipping on you for this job we'll be using a pair of scissors our underlay and you also need your area rug so the first thing we're going to do is take an unwrap our area rug and put it over top of our rug now we'll take our pair of scissors and you want to cut the underlay back about two inches from the outside of the rug so we'll just cut it all the way across here now we'll go ahead and spread it out across the entire rug making sure that we have a good distance between the underlay and the outside the rug you want to make sure you have about an inch and a half to two inches on every side that way it doesn't peek out the side of it and people trip over it so after that we'll take and fold up our mesh move our carpet out of the way and lay out our mesh and then place our area of rug right over the top of it this is a very inexpensive way you can keep your area rug from moving and not having to put any tape or anything on the bottom of your rug that could cause damage to your wood floors or your tiles thank you all for watching and good luck with this project
