do-do-do-do do-do-do-do do-do-do-do-do decorate the tree o Tannenbaum o Great Tree of Christmas and Yuletide spirit o Great Tree of gold and red and glittering balls gold and reindeer it's Christmastime my name is uncle aunty and this is crafting our for Christmas spirit Christmas power and Christmas cheer so today we're going to be making a paper miss a paper xmas craft a snowflake we're going to make a gorgeous snowflake now if any of you have ever been alive and seen snow then you know that they come down in big ol flakes and they are beautiful and unique as each individual human being is unique and gorgeous what you need for this beautiful craft to celebrate snowflakes uniqueness and glory from the gods you need to start with paper now my beautiful assistant Zelda is just off-camera we're not going to show her because she just got over a horrific accident if we could have some of that red paper thank you now we've got shades of red because our art department doesn't know what the is snowflake is and know that it's white we need to open it up here the nice thing about Christmas crafts we can use this little hook hooker that we put the balls on to the trees so you use the little hooker it's not very um it's you can't probably see it on the camera it's very small and made out of a very thin bendable metal you just stick it right into the plastic you use it kind of like a knife like a shiv and you just bring it across the film of the top they're perfect won't be hanging that ball back up I this hooker red shades of red cardstock paper i always recommend a card stock paper because it's thick and it will stand up to any sort of abuse that you might give to the on page now what you want to do is turn this into a square I guess you just kind of eyeball it that looks kind of square ish so you just you cut the ass off of the rectangle so that it becomes a square and then you can use this later for maybe a candy cane art you just really quickly you know you're cut the old the shaft there and candy ki you add a little white I don't think I have any white out but if you had why don't you could put white out on that now once you've cut out your basic candy cane shape all of you may recall that most candy canes are striped with white and red and well this is the back of the you know sales flyer inside the package of paper and on the back it's white so what you can do is cut it into strips like this you can just go willy-nilly you don't have to be all about precision because you're going to make it all work out after just got a couple strips and then and cut these longer strips into smaller strips it's like us you know everybody's stripping here and we're going to get it really down to like the basics like just like nothing's left we're just going to strip all these strips down to their basic necessity they're really flat when it's hard to pick up on their flat and then you just cut them like this and then what you do is you get a little bit of your favorite type of paste or glue or tape or sticky you know like you can use flypaper if that's all you've got because a lot of people they don't have a lot of money so fly paper you can cut up like if this was a fly paper you just cut it into strips and use that as tape but we've got some of my favorite tape green and it's a Scottish a Scottish tape based on the chart and design I think it might be a MacGregor so then as most people as you know tape you just unroll it and you put it on the the knife the teeth edge of the tape and this is a trick I learned from one of my teachers in my grade three or two and stuff because I didn't know how they were sticking like posters and things on walls like how did they make it work if you take a piece of tape just a flat piece of tape like like a highway and you roll it in on on top of itself so the sticky part meets the sticky part and you make this little tube of tape a tape tube you just put the tape tube on the back of the white strip and then you stick it on to your candy cane sticking all these on here and you just go like this and you stick it here just like this oh my god this is coming to life now right now I know it looks like a train track that's right coming in on itself which probably wouldn't be good for the train or the riders but then scissors you go along the edge and you snap off the overhang it's like having really long toenails now that we finished off our best of candy cane we're going to clean up our workstation because I'm always a big fan of working in a clean work station so you just lift the little towel or whatever this is a nice Christmas thing you just put it under there so you don't have to look at it and it's good now we're gonna get back to our snowflake now I remember the first time I was making a snowflake i was living in this youth outreach home I just well I'd been living on the streets for a long time and it was really nice warm you know beds full of ice but it was it was ok I didn't mind it and they were doing crafts and I figured well you know it's either go back out on the streets do your job or you can just keep making crafts so that's what I did I stuck with it and you know what I've changed my Christmas spirit changed everything and today I'm going to show you how to change your own life by making a snow flake out of paper now what you do you take your square and you you fold it in half just can you know line up the corners just make sure that it's nice and tight and you need some sort of a flat inner now you can use your fingers you can use your fingers for anything trust me but I like to use a really strong flat edge so I've got this little this is a conveyor of juice beverage conveyor and I use that just to slash the edge is really soft and hard so you get a real nice edge they call this in the craft world um an edger and so you just keep that in your edging all week all night everything a next thing you do now you've made a fold you just fold it again I backed wha and you get your edger you just edged yourself a nice good hard pull and then what you do this is a very basic one this is a two-fold snowflake to fold and you take your scissors trusty scissors and what you do you want to really think about tis the season and um unique shapes as you can see like here's an example of a snowflake it's got a little tape on the back I just pulled it off my blinds but that's like unique like different uniqueness so you just put that back there just and the big thing is about having unique shapes and cuts so you just take your square to fold and you just you do these kind of things okay this one's like this one's a small like a like a gash so you just put a gash in and here you know you can a lot of people like triangles like people like to do triangles and that's really nice because in nature triangles are like pyramids and then you everyone is unique beautiful snowflakes everyone's beautiful and you just cut a little thing like that shirt makes mess look at this one this kind of looks terrible when you look at it and you know everyone will think that they'll tell you they'll tell it to you straight to your face you know they'll tell you you're terrible and everything you do is awful but you just keep cutting and you got and make it look at that and then here's the beautiful thing here's where we get to la Christmastime here's a beautiful snowflake you know what this little guy because there are each unique and you never know what you're gonna get out of this this reminds me of a really um well I wouldn't call it pleasant but a case of super crabs I had one time so you put that on your tree right beside your candy cane you make a little space this ball doesn't need to be there you know this reindeers in your way welcome put them over there just hang this there look at that that's beautiful let's get another piece of paper let's do this one more time a triangle sort of a thing like a half triangle looks like a sail from a ship and now that you've got this unique shape you just start just go in go in let your scissors close your eyes don't even guide what your do you probably shouldn't close your eyes when you're cutting these things because if you go too far you get to the edge and that's not gonna work out but you know one saw this coming look put it aside for a moment and grow some of this white stuff and make a couple of snowflakes shaped pay poppy a little pieces of paper and then look at this what does this remind you of Christmas time and you just put it on to the paper and what you've got is red green and white and if you keep a little bit of the tape extra on top you can do one of your loops over like this and you can make an actual hanger right on top it's got a little loop and everything I think that's brilliant and I'm giving this you know what I go to do your neighbor her name is Verna she doesn't get out much she's on dialysis poor woman she's not long for this world and most of her family don't give a about her and you nobody visits her and I like her a lot you know she doesn't bring me food like most old lady neighbors cuz she's not dialysis she's almost gone but I figured I'd give her this beautiful piece of art craft and just to make a difference in her season because Christmas is about giving so I'm just gonna put this year for now just so I remember it she's gonna love that it looks like a smiling alien some sort of thing so once again we just clean our space and once you're done cleaning you're done your craft and you know what you do you sing yourself a little holiday cheer song you sing a little bit of Christmas you wear your tape like a beautiful bracelet if you want to you sing this christmas time is here
