so today we're going to talk about something that a bunch of you have had I'm sure actually everybody has had but no one questioned it no one thought where does this stuff come from on today's WTF today's sponsor is verb incorporated makers of lis gum glue gum is a pretty remarkable product here in the United States because it's the only gum sold in the States that is still manufactured with what is called Chi Chi Chi clay is a substance that we'll talk about in a second but suffice to say it is a natural product a natural gum that comes from the Chi played tree and in the states they're the only ones still doing it this way everyone else is using synthetic products so you can check out Glee gum at your local high-end grocery store or health food store you can also check them out an order online at kilig uncom and they make cheap a chewing gum kits so if you want to take a spin and make your own gun which what we're going to do in a second and get their kit online and glue gum calm all right so today we are talking about gum now most gum that you buy at the store is made out of synthetic materials like rubber as its base however historically this is not how gum was made gum was made from different saps and gums from different trees and plants the most notable substance that was used for a long time was a product called Chi Chi it was a gum from the Chi play tree and that is what started the mainstream gum chewing phenomenon historically speaking there's evidence that supports the fact that gum is about 5000 years old there's evidence that shows that the Aztecs women were chewing the chica a tree sap as a sort of breath freshener and that the ancient Greeks chewed the sap from the mastic tree and kind of made a mastic chewing gum then masticated or mastic it was in the 1860s that the first commercial gums started to be developed and in 1884 the first was produced commercially and widely available it was called Black Jack it was also the first government to come and stick form when gum has made a gum base that is Chi clay or some sort of resin or rubber is mixed with some confectioner sugar and corn syrup and other sweeteners and it gets pulled into almost like a taffy then it gets rolled out or shaped or cut into the final product that you chew today of course some gums are also coated with a candy shell like Chiclets since blue gum is that response er we thought we would take their chewing gum kit for a test drive and make a batch of chewing gum themselves the kit comes with a pouch of corn syrup first put that pouch in a cup and pour enough boiling water so that the water is about the same level as the corn syrup this is just to loosen up the corn syrup and to get it to flow a bit more smoothly sprinkle about 1/4 of a cup of confectioner's sugar onto a cutting board in a small mound for a 2 quart pot with about 3 inches of water and bring it to a boil now add your cheek gum base in its packet and let it melts this will take about 20 minutes now you're gonna mix your corn syrup and chiclet gum base together knead it into your sugar on your cutting board and divide it into two or more parts 1 part for flavor that you want to make you can add flavored packets that are powdered or you can use a liquid sweetener like abstract just keep meeting meeting meeting and the gum will get thicker and thicker then roll it out pretty thin and cut it just like you would a pie dough you can make squares out of it cubes or you can make sticks that you could wrap up with aluminum foil if you'd like then just chew away so that is how you make gum at home now of course this is a proprietary recipe but it's actually proprietary because it's really hard to put your hmmm cheap like in the United States so ordering a kit like this can be the best way to make guns at home check out our sponsor Luigi uncom online and I will see you tomorrow with another
