Please explain how to make a garden trellis | diy trellis

hey there welcome to DIY projects with Pete I'm your host DIY Pete out in Bozeman Montana and today I'm going to show you how to build some simple trellises along with my mom hey Pete this is going to be a fun project and I'm looking forward to building it with you all right let's get to it for tools you're going to want to pick up or borrow a miter saw or circular saw a drill a sander and ear and eye protection for supplies you're going to need some two by two by eight boards screws a tape measure and a pencil the first step is to measure and mark your 2x2 boards for the trellis you can make this whatever size you'd like we decided to build our six feet tall and four feet wide once the measuring is complete we'll make the cuts on a miter saw you can use a handsaw or a circular saw if you do not have a miter saw just take your time and make each of the cuts perfect mom it's not so intimidating is it we cut a total of four longer boards to 72 inches and then seven shorter boards at 48 inches we also cut a few spacers as well okay one last cut mom okay let it rock after making all the cuts you'll want to sand any of the rough edges using either an orbital sander or just some basic sandpaper we did a quick sanding of all the edges and called it good boy mom you really knocked that out in record speed I did knock it out because you caught on quick there next clean up the work area so we have a flat surface to work with and begin assembling the trellis by laying out the four outside boards you'll want to drill pilot holes for each screw to prevent the wood from splitting and it's handy to have a second drill or an impact wrench to put the screws in once those pilot holes are made I like to put two screws in each of the four corners to help square up and then to prevent the frame from pivoting at each point then measure in space the remaining two vertical boards evenly attach them from the backside just like we did all the other boards so that the screws are all hidden we did use two and a half inch wood screws for this project well I'll start measuring so we're going to go first from the way bottom and we're actually going to put the line kind of on the side so because we're going to be putting it underneath right so that we can tell or get a better idea so 7/16 we'll go 35 ok and we'll do the same thing on this side and when you've finished measuring we can start attaching the shorter 48 inch long boards one at a time you can attach them using one screw at each board and you know you're welcome to use wood glue if you'd like continue attaching each of the horizontal boards to the trellis you can space these boards however you'd like we put one just below the center to attach a horse trough plant or two and then the others were placed near the bottom and top and we'll eventually have some vines strung through them we decided to add some four inch long spacers to the backside of the trellis to keep it in inch and a half from the siding of the house this is going to add some dimension while also giving room to run vines or drip hoses from the back side and add the optional spacers on the top bottom and middle part of the trellis boom good work mom whew let's go hang it up hey put in the last one here solid as a rock yep right through those loops sir you get yours in first yep perfect okay nice work mom all right thanks so much for tuning in to DIY projects with Pete I hope you enjoyed today's episode that in it inspires you to build your own trellises maybe with your mom or a family member or friend so please connect on Facebook subscribe to this YouTube channel if you enjoyed watching this video give it a little thumbs up and go out and give this a shot so thanks again mom for joining thank you for you too it's fun all right good luck have fun and Cheers from Bozeman Montana wow that looks great it's it's a beaut don't forget to watch some of the other videos on my youtube channel click on the left thumbnail to find out how to build an ice chest cooler for your patio and on the right thumbnail to learn how to build a patio bar lastly please subscribe and give this video a thumbs up if you found it helpful cheers guys you
