Ok, hon, it's a beautiful day--what's on
the project calendar? I got two projects lined up for us. The first one's small--it's a set of stairs. They're brick stairs with concrete tops, they have a broom finish, they were installed recently... They noticed they're having a little bit of scaling and spalling in some areas so they definitely want to get them sealed. They want to go with a natural finish. The second project is a new paver walkway that was just reinstalled and it's the same deal: they want to go with a natural finished product. They're not looking for
any type of a decorative finish whatsoever, so... ...probably want to go with
the Ghostshield Siloxa-Tek 8500? Of course they want to go with
Ghostshield Siloxa-Tek 8500. Both projects want to use the same sealer? Both projects want to use the same sealer, so it's a twofer. What's a "twofer"? Two projects, one sealer. Wow! What do you think? It's beautiful back here. It's a beautiful day and it's so serene you would hardly even know
that we're on a main street. Yeah, look at this backyard, huh? The stairs look like they're in really great condition. There is a little bit of spalling on the edges
of the steps, so I think we're sealing just in time Yeah, I think so too, and the
nice thing is it's brick and broom-finished concrete. We're using the Siloxa-Tek 8500 today, so it's gonna be able to seal both of those substrates with no problem. We don't worry about cutting it in, drips, how it's gonna finish on either one of them, so we're really gonna get a textbook application What I really like about the Siloxa-Tek 8500 is that it's available 'ready-to-use' and 'ultra-concentrated', and today we're using the 'ready-to-use' version. So, let's talk about some tools that you need for the project. What I have is a low-pressure pump sprayer -- it's just a home and garden sprayer -- it makes application of Siloxa-Tek 8500 very easy. It also has this little wand with a trigger on here so we'll be able to pump it up, and we'll be able to spray the sealer right on the concrete. We're also going to be using a paint brush and a small roller to work the material into the edges of the steps, and if any material tends to drip
we can paint it right into the substrate. And don't forget your safety glasses. So we're gonna start with putting the Siloxa-Tek 8500 into our low-pressure pump sprayer. So we unscrew the top, pull that out... We've got our sealer right here --
I'm just gonna give it a little bit of a shake -- shake it up a little bit.
We're ready to pour it in. So the Siloxa-Tek 8500 is also a low-VOC product
so it's safe to use in all fifty states. Ok, I think it's pumped. We're ready. So with the Siloxa-Tek 8500 it's a two-coat application, so you want to apply two coats of wet-on-wet. So, basically, what that means is that you apply your first coat, and before your first coat fully dries, you want to go ahead and get a second coat on. So what I'm doing is I am working in any of the drip marks into the brick. I'm just sort of working all the drip marks into the brick areas. So it looks like the sealer is already starting to dry. It usually dries within a couple of hours,
and then a full cure will take about 24 hours. Oof! I don't know, honey. This one's really--this one really--this one really wiped me. - Tough day of sealing for you?
- I'm exhausted I mean I did four steps and a landing...
I don't typically do all that. - Do you think you'll make it to the next one?
- I hope so. - Ok, let's go.
- Let's go. - Here we are.
- Yeah, it's a really cute house. They just did this paver walkway. I like it. I like the different paver sizes
that they chose, and the pattern, and that little bit of texture, and it looks like they used some polymeric sands in the joint to really hold everything together. Yeah, this is textbook.
They want to go with the Siloxa-Tek 8500. We use Ghostshield. They want a natural finish. They still want the protection, as well,
so, I think we're in good shape. Yeah, I think it's gonna be a success. Yeah, let's get going. This one I'll let you seal. So we're still using the Siloxa-Tek 8500, except this time it's ultra-concentrated. Ghostshield Siloxa-Tek 8500 comes in two versions: they make it in a 'ready-to-use' version
and they also make it in an ultra-concentrate. If you're using the ultra-concentrated version, you'll see down on the front that it has the icon, it has the water drop with the plus symbol. It says "concentrated, makes five gallons". It's a good indication so you know which product you're using. So, Ben has filled up this five gallon bucket with four gallons of water for me and I'm gonna take the one gallon of concentrated Siloxa-Tek 8500 and pour it into the bucket. But first we're gonna put on our safety goggles. Oh, it's my favorite part. Our safety goggles. How do we look? You look good. Just gonna mix it really briefly with
the sprayer tip, here. If you're not using a sprayer you can use a paint stick, it's always easy to go that route as well. Once you've got it all nice and mixed up
pretty well, we're ready to get into the sprayer. - You got that one ready, you ready to do it?
- I'm ready. I'm just gonna spray it right on to the pavers.
Nice and easy. I could watch you work all day. We do want to apply two coats; and the coats are applied 'wet-on-wet'. So immediately after our first coat we're gonna go back and apply a second coat before the first coat dries. And because we are applying
this sealer, and it is a little sunny, our first coat is drying rather quickly so we're just gonna immediately go back and apply a second coat. And as you can see, the material is starting to pool and puddle in a few areas, so Ben is gonna come in with the roller just to ensure that the material is getting right into the pavers. And I'm gonna go ahead and move on to the next section. The Siloxa-Tek 8500 is water-based, so I have absolutely no odor as I'm applying it. And because we went with the ultra-concentrated gallon there's about eighty percent less waste in packaging than if we were to have
five 'ready-to-use' gallons here. Wow, we're actually getting done a lot ahead of schedule. We are -- this is a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Yeah, and it's drying pretty quick. Looks
like we're gonna have this whole thing done before Eileen gets home. She's not even gonna know we were here. No. It's gonna dry completely natural. I know. That's what I'm afraid of. She's not gonna know we did it. We might not get paid. So here we are -- we're back. What do you think? I think it looks great you can't even tell that it's been sealed. No. Everything is completely dry you can see that everything was fully absorbed. The pavers have returned back to their natural finish. - So now it's time for the test.
- My favorite part: the gratification. Yeah. So if you're at home, and you've completed your job ,and you're not 100% sure if your pavers a sealed or not, a way you
can test it is by just pouring a little bit of water on them. - Ok Ben. Let's see.
- You Ready? Here we go. All right, the moment of truth. - Wow, what do you think?
- That's an amazing bead. Is it sealed or what? Nothin is being absorbed. The pavers are completely sealed. Job well done. Job well done.
