so it's really important when you're dealing with storing herbs and cleaning herbs and dealing with them in general to kind of think about them as soft herbs and then the hard year herbs and so the heart of your herbs I would put thyme rosemary those kinds of things and then basil cilantro and parsley I would put in the soft herb category basil is his own special thing entirely actually and so what I recommend you do when you get basil home would be to just put it into a little cup of water and keep it on your counter until you use it if you want to insist on keeping it in the fridge go ahead and you can put it into a bag like this with a dry paper towel in it and get all the air out I'm going to show you how to do that but then don't put basil in your crisper drawer because that's or even even in the back of the fridge where it can get quite cold so I would put it in the door of your fridge which is a little bit warmer basil can turn black really quickly on you so it needs to stay a little bit warmer that's why I recommend just treating it like flowers putting it in the glass putting it on your countertop now time being hard here if it's feels extremely dry to you then you can take a paper towel and lightly moisten the paper towel and then roll the time here this is how I'm going to show you to do keep a lot of herbs put it in the bottom of a zip bag and then get all the air out what I do is I almost seal it completely and then roll it and push all the air out and then press down on it okay a little bit of dampness on the time will keep it from drying out too much and keep it nice and fresh and this go ahead and keep in your crisper drawer and you can even put just a little label on it since you can't really see what it is and say time if you're not going to use all of your time go ahead and just put it in the freezer in a bag to use for making a vegetable stock or a chicken stock if you're dealing with the softer herbs like let's say for example cilantro which is going to come to you already a little bit damp the first thing I recommend is just cutting off this the end part here taking off the tag and then actually I don't recommend washing it before you store it what you really want to do with something like cilantro is to get it rye spread it out on that paper towel and then roll it inside the paper towel okay and then store it the same way that you would store the time and this is going to keep a lot of moisture that's in a cilantro from rotting the leaves so keeping it drier is better and then wash it as you're using it and the same exact thing I recommend for the parsley oh we're filming thanks for watching my videos my name is Becky sellin gut I really appreciate you hanging out here with me for a little while feel free to check out my website at www.mckaymagic.com
