hi I'm Simon with appliance parts pros.com today we're gonna show you how to repair your appliance are you ready remember any time you work on your appliance make sure it's unplugged all those circuit breakers are helped so there is no chance of electrocution in this video we'll show you how to replace the Universal elementary skeptical kit in the tap on range it's going to be very easy repair should only take a few minutes to show you how to do it for this job we're going to need a Phillips screwdriver a pair of wire strippers and the heat gun when you open up the package you are going to get a new Universal element receptacle kit that includes the terminal block a pair of wires with contacts to heat shrink sleeves to wire nuts and two mounting brackets also you're gonna get the instructions the universal element receptacle is located under the top of the wrench and was used for plugging the surface heating element the main reason why the universal element receptacle would need to be replaced is if its electrical contacts turn out causing the element not to hit to get to the receptacle we need to remove the surface element and the drip pan then using the phillips screwdriver take one screw out and remove the old receptacle grab the cooktop with both hands on the sides and lift it up using the wire strippers cut the old receptacles wires approximately three inches from the terminal block this is the old element receptacle next to the new Universal element receptacle kit if you don't have these parts you can get it from appliance parts proz.com we will begin with speaking of the terminal block and the mounting bracket that matches the old receptacle style compare the two receptacles and choose the right mounting bracket from the kit in our case it's this one push it on the terminal block and then insert the wires into the block until they lock in pull all the pre-cut pieces of insulation from the receptacle wires and slide the heat shrink sleeves on each wire now we are ready to install the kit using the wire strippers strip 3/8 of an inch of the insulation from the range wires twist the wires just once and install the wire nuts bend the wires and slide the sleeves on the wire nuts now we are going to use the heat gun to shrink the insulation sleeves one at a time if you don't have a heat gun and are not planning on buying one use the lighter to heat the insulation sleeves just be careful not to melt them put down the wrench top place the receptacles bracket on a wrench top and match the holes secure to the Phillips screw place the drip pan in before plugging the surface element in check its condition if the terminals are damaged because of the contact with the burn receptacle you should replace the surface element together with a receptacle the part number for the large element is three one six four four two three zero one and for the small element is three one six four three nine eight zero one if you don't have this part you can get it from appliance parts proz.com if the terminals are good install the element and now when we're done with the repair plug the wrench back in turn the surface element on and check if it's heating up properly thank you for being a part of another successful repair brought to you by appliance parts proz.com for any of your future appliance repair projects please check out our other if your videos available on our site on Facebook and on YouTube
