hi i'm terry carter of saddlebrook stables in castle hay north carolina today i'm going to talk to you about how to teach your horse to neck rain for this you will need a bridle a saddle and space there are two types of raining one is direct rain where you pull right and the horse goes right or you pull left and the horse goes left the other type of rain is called a neck rain and that involves you holding the reins in one hand and the horse turning whenever i would lay my right rein against the horse's neck he would turn she would turn to the left and whenever i would lay my left rein against the horse's neck she would turn right now the way to do this is to also have your horse in tune with your leg aids what you want to do is you want to be able to move your hand up the horse's neck and i'm going to turn her to the left so i'm going to bring my hand over to the left so that the right rein lays across her neck at the same time moving my leg to help show her which way i want her to go if she's resistant to me i can reach over and grab this rain my other rain the left rain and i can pull on her using a little bit of direct rain so she can learn that that rain against her neck means she needs to go away from the rain pressure now we're going to do it in the opposite direction i'm going to bring my hand forward and i'm going to move it to the right laying the left rein against her neck i'm going to push with my left leg she should be going right again if she's not listening to my reign i can reach forward grab this right rain use some direct rain always having that left rain against her neck so that she learns that that left rain means go right eventually i should be able to drop my direct rain hand and move her all around just by changing the direction of my hand and laying a rain against her neck in whichever direction i would like for her to go and that is how to train your horse to neck rain
