hey guys welcome to a new video today I will be showing you how to apply gold leaf to a surface so I knew I'd be making a circular shape over this background that you see here it's like rad the closest thing that was kind of roughly the size that I wanted to a dinner plate and lightly traced it around with a chalk pastel the medium that I will be using here to allow the gold leaf to stick is going to be called an adhesive size and then here we see our lovely sheets of gold leaf I grabbed a kind of an old rigger brushed so you can see here I'm lightly brushing on the fluid so it's kind of looks like milk I knew the circle I wanted it to be a little rougher looking so I didn't want it to be perfect so you can see how that looks there so continued brushing on all of our quick strokes though you could be as meticulous as you would like for this depending on how you would like the leaf to look in the end but I wanted a nice rough look so the next step is to let it dry so you want it to dry to a clear fluid it'll be still slightly tacky usually about thirty minutes should do now you want to grab your sheets of gold leaf I like to tear it up into small little sections ideally you shouldn't be touching it too much with your fingers but I didn't really have anything else to touch it with so fingers it is so you can see I lightly Pat on the pieces of the gold leaf over the shape not taking care that you really have the like exact shape right now just kind of pack it on you'll see me patting the surface a lot with my fingers even where there isn't any gold leaf and basically what i'm doing here is i'm just feeling for the tackiness of that kind of glue the size and so i know where to put more leaf there next step is to take kind of a little stiff brush and we are going to be buffing the rest of that gold leaf away so the stuff that has not yet stuck or won't stick because there's no size for it to adhere to and brush that away so gold leaf is such a delicate sort of material that it is so easily blown around so do not sneeze to not breathe too hard or you will end up with these little gold leaf flakes everywhere so just buff buff buff and you can see I'm using different angles to try and pull away that leaf from where it's not actually adherent to anything so I like to collect all the little gold leaf dust and keep them in a little container so I can use that again when you're using this sort of gold leaf dust to apply to the stickiness of the size it gives an integer so it's a lot more fragmented and a lot more textural so it gives a totally different effect so I would like to save that for later and here we go see how lovely that gold leaf is just reflects like light just beautifully so hopefully you guys enjoy this video and thank you for watching subscribe to see more you
